Bundles of Joy

Christchurch is growing and that includes lots of new babies! Our "Bundles of Joy" ministry members take great joy in welcoming them and celebrating their arrival!

When a baby is born, a "Welcome" sign is placed in the family's yard and our "Bundles of Joy" members go into action doing fun and helpful things for the family.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a faith formation experience for children ages 3-12.  Based on the premise that God and the child share a relationship, the curriculum is designed to develop the religious potential of every child and produces in the child the desire to draw nearer to God.

The work of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is done in an Atrium.  The Atrium is an environment created so that children can develop a living, personal, relationship with God.  It is a place where Jesus Christ is encountered by reading and reflecting on the Bible, through prayer and singing and by exploring the liturgy of the word.

The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was developed over 50 years ago in Rome, Italy by Dr. Sofia Cavalletti, a Hebrew scholar and theologian, and Gianna Gobbi, a Montessori educator.  Today, this Montessori Method of Christian formation exists in over 22 countries worldwide.

  • Ages 3 1/2-5: Level I - "I am the Good Shepherd. I call my sheep by name. They hear my voice and follow me." It is here that we want the child to simply "fall in love with Jesus, the Good Shepherd." Presentations include historical events of the life of Jesus, his preaching about the Kingdom of God and the proclamations about Christ as the Light and the Good Shepherd.

  • Kindergarden-3rd grade: Level II - "I am the vine, you are the branches. Whoever remains in me bears fruit in plenty; for cut off from me you can do nothing." Once children enter first grade, they are ready to deepen their relationship with God, family, friends and a larger community. They will explore moral parables and maxims of Jesus, develop a deeper understanding of the Bible and look closely at the structure of the Eucharist.

Children's Church (grades K-3)

Junior Worship (grades 4-6)

Children follow the acolyte to their worship areas during the processional hymn. Age appropriate methods are used to teach children about the Bible, worship, prayer and the liturgy. Children return to the service to share the Eucharist with their family.

Junior Worship is for grades 4 through 6 and meets in the main building upstairs in the Youth Worship area.

Nursery

At Christchurch, it is our purpose to share the love of Christ with your child in a safe, loving, fun and comfortable environment. To accomplish this, our workers will walk, rock, read and play with the children to insure that they are content.

We have paid childcare providers. All employees are carefully screened and trained. Background checks are done through the Department of Human Resources and our providers are CPR and first-aid trained. Staff training and written procedures ensure that our childcare facilities are safe and sanitary.

We believe your child is a special gift from God, so we want to provide the best love and care possible.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Childcare facilities will be open 30 minutes prior to regular church services.

In order for the care givers to be aware of each child's specific needs, parents need to complete an information card and then update the information on the card periodically.

Bring diapers, pacifiers, bottles and a change of clothes for your child. Label all items with your child's name.

SIGN-IN AND SIGN-OUT

In ...... The Childcare Ministry's number paging system prevents anyone other than the parent from picking up a child. As you sign in your child, you will receive a numbered pager.

Out ... To pick your child up, simply return the numbered pager and sign your child out. A child will only be given to a parent with the pager. Children may not be picked up by siblings.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • We ask that neither parents or siblings enter the Childcare Center rooms as it upsets the children.
  • Parents should report any allergies to the child's teacher.
  • Children who are sick, have had a fever within the last 24 hours, have colored mucus from the nose, are coughing, vomiting, have skin rash, etc., will not be allowed in the Childcare Center.
  • If your child develops a fever or other symptoms, we will page you so that you can take your child home.
  • No medications will be given to any child in the Childcare Center.
  • Please refrain from giving your child gum or candy before coming to class. It can be dangerous and messy.
  • The Childcare Center bedding is changed after each use. Beds and toys are wiped down with a sterilized solution after each session.
  • The childcare providers sterilize and wipe down changing tables after each change. Plastic gloves are used during a diaper change and hands washed thoroughly afterward.
  • If your child's class moves out of their assigned room, a note will be posted on the door letting you know of your child's new location
